After inheriting a large plot of land, the Hancock family began construction on this neighborhood in the 1920s, shortly after the area’s oil supply was exhausted. At this time, the land was subdivided into individual residential lots and a larger section (105 acres) was designated for the Wilshire Country Club. Hancock Park initially centered around a private golf club, but since then, it has developed its own architectural style and become an attraction all on its own.
This beautiful area has a sense of continuity, flowing from residential to commercial without a jarring change in atmosphere. The city’s power lines and telephone lines are buried, preserving the appearance of the tree line, and most of the homes do not have fences built around them.
