North Hollywood is a centrally located community, and as such, it is a major center for transportation. North Hollywood includes both Red Line and Orange Line Metro Stations, making it a hub for the San Fernando Valley region. North Hollywood’s closest neighbors include Sun Valley, Burbank, Toluca Lake, Studio City, Valley Village, and Valley Glen. For practical purposes, North Hollywood is often used as a blanket term for the entire area, including parts of the adjacent communities. It is interesting to note that North Hollywood is not adjacent to Hollywood; instead Hollywood Hills and other portions of the San Fernando Valley separate it.

Community owned facilities include two recreation centers – the North Hollywood Recreation Center and the Valley Plaza Recreation Center in North Hollywood – each with basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, picnic tables, an auditorium, and much more.

Living in North Hollywood

North Hollywood is best known as the location of the NoHo Arts District and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The NoHo Arts District is home to an assortment of cafes, art galleries, more than twenty theaters, and small, boutique style shops. The theaters in NoHo Arts District feature both new productions and classic favorites. This area also includes the highest concentration of music recording studios on the West Coast. The NoHo Arts District is also home to a number of professional dance studios and public art such as outdoor sculptures. This district was officially established in 1992, but it had been a cultural center long before that.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a name that is usually shortened to the Television Academy, is most well known as the host of the annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Throughout the year, this center is responsible for hosting a well-respected internship program among other student outreach programs, the yearly College Television Awards, and a scholarship program. The Television Academy’s other major responsibility is maintaining the Archive of American Television.

Real Estate in North Hollywood

The real estate in North Hollywood tends to be cheaper than that of the surrounding areas, with a median home price of a little more than $500,000. The average price per square foot for properties in North Hollywood is about $50 lower than the Los Angeles average.

Like most Los Angeles communities, the real estate in North Hollywood consists of a selection of single-family homes, condos and townhomes, and a few apartment buildings. However, unlike most of Los Angeles’ other communities, there is not as much of a price difference between the condos and single family homes in North Hollywood. Condos and townhomes here tend to sell for around $425,000 while single-family homes sell for just under $600,000. The single-family homes in this area tend to be on the small side, with 2 or 3 bedrooms and bathrooms.
